give&score brings NONPROFITS and young skilled VOLUNTEERS together to help each other. NONPROFITS get important work done while saving time and resources and VOLUNTEERS gain real work experience and credentials which help them succeed in a competitive job market.
This means that we create a space for you to post projects for and interact with volunteers, but we do not directly manage every project, nor do we actively connect individual nonprofits and volunteers together. It’s up to volunteers to successfully market themselves to nonprofits when applying for projects. And, it’s up to nonprofits to look through the applications they receive and choose the volunteer they believe to be the most qualified applicant.
While give&score is a learning environment, where we provide resources to help volunteers be successful in the projects they work on, give&score is also an environment where professionalism and high quality work are expected at all times. You are not expected to “go easy on” volunteers or give them positive scores and feedback as a thank you gesture. Volunteers are here to gain professional experience, so we encourage you to treat them like employees and to give them constructive feedback that will help them grow professionally.
In order for us to be able to keep up with the demands of both our nonprofit organizations and volunteers at all times - rather than to be available only when we have sufficient funding – we decided to make give&score a for-profit organization. We realized that being dependent on donations would be undesirable, as it could result in patchy, unreliable service on our end. We want to be able to ensure that both nonprofits and volunteers feel constantly supported through the completion of projects; thus, we charge a small fee for the projects you post, but we also do our best to make sure that the fees for projects are significantly less than a nonprofit would normally pay for the same professional services. We ensure that all fees are small enough that even the smallest, underfunded charities can afford to complete projects.
give&score is not…
While give&score is meant to help nonprofits complete professional projects that they might otherwise be incapable of finishing, it is not a place to recruit volunteers for physical tasks or non-professional volunteer work. The volunteers that you choose will only be working on project material for the specialized, short-term projects you post. We ask that nonprofit organizations do not actively try to advertise their cause or recruit students for long-term volunteer relationships on our site. You are welcome, however, to offer our volunteers full time, paid positions within your organization.
Although some of the students and graduates you find on give&score will lack professional experience in their chosen fields, if you choose a volunteer with the right skills and training, any volunteer is capable of producing high quality work. Thus, we encourage you to take a chance on new volunteers and to push them to do their absolute best. If you are presented with an unusable or low quality product at the end of a project, however, we do not expect you to settle for unsatisfactory work. If you feel that the work a volunteer has done for a project is unacceptable, you’re able to cancel that project or repost it for a different volunteer to complete.
